Janine’s ability to translate our strategic and commercial objectives into practical and achievable outcomes – often measured by finances raised and relationships built – was excellent. Janine was able to successfully work with management and the board, delegate and self-direct in a way that ensured the viable future of the AIATSIS Foundation in its early years. 

Janine has left the AIATSIS Foundation in a strong position where our goals and objectives will be fulfilled through the use of the relationships and structures she developed for the organisation. I would like to note that, given the position of the AIATSIS Foundation in relation to government, Janine was particularly capable at navigating the relationships associated with a Commonwealth statutory agency. 

While Janine brought with her an impressive network, her ability to form new relationships and open new doors across a broad range of stakeholders was useful. This was demonstrated by the huge success we achieved with the AIATSIS Foundation following the initial launch.

Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies

AIATSIS is the federal government agency responsible for the conservation and sharing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ knowledge and cultures. AIATSIS engaged J9 to establish a Foundation for private sector support so that it could raise the essential support needed for its many vital projects.

Approach 

J9 held a strategic planning with AIATSIS Council members and Executive, prepared a business plan for building private sector support, introduced prospective Foundation Board members, developed the case for support, advised on communications, public relations and relationship management of donors and business partners.  J9 set up the internal systems, templates and tools required for administration processes. Janine acted in the role of interim Director.

Results

AIATSIS Foundation successfully launched programs to raise support for Songlines and Indigenous languages which attracted international media coverage and raised the Foundation’s profile. Its first donors and corporate partners were secured as a result of the initial events. A permanent Director was appointed and the Foundation continues to successfully raise funds for these critical issues.
